Brixtol Textiles Sustainable Award
At the end of September, Brixtol Textiles was named this year’s sustainability profile. Which is something that we at APLACE think is important to pay attention to. We had the chance to chat a bit with Brixtol Textiles and hear more about the win and what’s happening now.
Hello and congratulations to you! Brixtol Textiles has been on the map for over 10 years. It must feel good to be noticed as a profile that stands for a better future. What do you think was the reason for your victory?
– The award was established by the Stockholm Fashion District in 2018 to promote sustainable development in the fashion industry. We won the award for our identity, transparency and clear stance in sustainability. We at Brixtol Textiles work with outerwear, which is a product group that consists of many components, and we believe that one of the reasons why we won is that we work with sustainability at the detail level. For example, we manufacture a type of buttons from milk protein.
How/what will you do to keep this award? How does Brixtol Textiles look the future?
We were very early in highlighting the sustainable materials in our products. For example, we received a lot of attention when we produced puffer jackets made from recycled PET bottles in 2016. Since then, sustainable materials have been an important issue for us. Today, our autumn collection is 95% made from sustainable materials, by 2025 the goal is to have 100% sustainable materials.
Which sustainability issue in the fashion industry would you like to create more attention and awareness around?
Today, many people talk about sustainability from an environmental perspective, but it is just as important to highlight the social aspect, i.e. the people behind who work with the production of materials and products. It is important that companies choose not to work with so-called sweatshops and take their responsibility for working conditions and working environment.
Fun Facts are what we at Brixtol Textiles are personally most proud of. Such as the small details that may not be seen most. Last season, for example, we made our metal buttons from leftover material from Finnish surgical instruments.
Finally, we want to hear, how did you celebrate the win?
We had a big party in our showroom for our dealers, friends and press. There we had a short presentation about the prize we won. We also showcased highlights from the AW23/SS24 collection as well as our textile installation from Elin Stampe that we presented at Liljevalchs last year. Our friends at Café Nizza provided Wine & Cheese.
