Exclusively in our stores, you will now find handmade and unique ceramics from Siri Jaffe. We had the opportunity ask Siri about her creative process, where she gets her inspiration and how life can be changed by an taking a night class!
Hi! Please tell us a little about yourself Siri,
who are you and how did you get into the track as a Ceramicist?
Hi! Me and the ceramics, a love story. Since the year 2019 I have been doing clay and in recent years it has become more or less daily.
For me, the ceramics are like an alternative dimension, where the body is just a tool and the head a place for beautiful images. It is a wonderful state free from achievement, demands and self-consciousness. When I open and empty a successful oven, I get the same tingle in my stomach as when you are newly in love.
Where do you find your inspiration?
In all that is pretty! New and older designs, in nature, in an old wall hanging. I am inspired by beautiful environments, messy dinners with friends. I have a great admiration for textile crafts and in this collection I have explored the combination between stoneware and embroidery. A tribute to the fantastic textile art of all women throughout the ages.
You changed direction completely in life, how did you get there and what was it like?
I took an evening course and then I was hooked. I think I have had a great longing to be creative and work with something aesthetic, so since that door opened it was only natural.
What are the most important details you want people to take with them from your design and crafts?
I always strive for the perfect balance between function and elegance in my crafts. My hope is that the ceramics should feel everyday objects and at the same time do that little extra to give the meal an elevated and valuable feeling. Knowing that the craft can contribute to a certain extent to people meeting, socializing and enjoying together is ultimately the best confirmation I can get for what I do.
What would be your dream project?
Maybe to go and work as a ceramic apprentice in Japan for a year. And to build my own wood oven!
